Moonshine Fly Rods
Moonshine Rod Co. is a fairly new rod company that has been hitting the market with some impressive gear over the last few year. Here’s a rundown of all the Moonshine fly rods with an abbreviated comparison and price list.

Moonshine Fly Rods
Moonshine Midnight Special II Fly Rod
The Midnight Special II is the redesign of the orginal rod that put Moonshine on the map, albeit now using the newer carbon fiber nano matrix design that made the Vesper so popular. Probably the most prominent feature of these rods is the custom reel seat in either Tiger King, Topography, Brindle, or Candy Apple burl.
The blank is made from a fast action high modulus nano matrix carbon fiber. It also feature FLOR grade cork, SiC Titanium stripping guides, and Virginia milled reel seats of limited edition species, dyes, and finished. This thing looks incredible.

Moonshine Vesper Fly Rod
While the Midnight Special II is a high end rod with exquisite detail, the Vesper series is Moonshine’s flagship line of high performance rods. It features the same fast action nano matrix carbon fiber blank.
The reel seat comes in either Tobacco Tiger or Salt Ready anodized aluminum. It also features SiC Titanium stripping guides, light wire single foot guides, AAAA grade cork, and blackout uplocking rings with Delrin bushings.
It comes in a variety of models to suit your needs whether dry fly fishing on a mountain stream or tossing big streamer in the salt.

It’s a great rod for tailwaters and freestone streams at a price that won’t break the bank.

However the refreshed rod also now includes SiC stripping guides. And probably the biggest difference is the weight. They’ve shaved off about a half ounce depending on which model you get.

Moonshine Glass Fly Rods
Moonshine Revival Glass Fly Rod
Fiberglass rods have recently been making a comeback, and the Revival is Moonshine’s initial forway into the glass rod world. In typical Moonshine fashion, it features anodized copper hardware with hand turned Spalted burl that has been dyed to exposed the grain of the wood.
It utilizes type E glass in a full flex design to provide the slower action from days gone by that is incredibly satisfying to cast. The rod comes in a burnt orange/tan blank with metallic copper thread wraps.

It comes in the following models:
3 weight | 7′ |
5 weight | 8′ |
Moonshine Revival-S Glass Fly Rod
The second generation design of the Revival brings us to the Moonshine Revival-S. As the name implies, the biggest different is the change from type E fiberglass to the lighter, and more flexible type S2 glass.
This version does not have the same anodized copper reel seat as the first, but perhaps that is what contributes to the fact that this version is about a half ounce lighter than the first. And while the design still utilizes the same burnt orange blank, it’s changed slightly by adding the black accent on the butt section.
Beyond that, it still comes with the same Titanium stripping guides and hand turned reel seat insert. This is truly a great improvement on the original.

It comes in the following models:
2 weight | 6’6″ |
3 weight | 7′ |
4 weight | 7’6″ |
5 weight | 8′ |
6 weight | 8′ |
